Published: 27th January, 2014

Presentation to Mrs Christine Harvey,Town Clerk, Church Stretton Town Council
by Shropshire Association of Local Councils (SALC)
21st January 2014

Just to look back at what Christine has achieved during the past 30 / 31 years as Clerk to Church Stretton Parish and latterly Town Council

  • Became Clerk to Church Stretton Parish Council 14th March 1983
  • Part-time position - just the Clerk and the Caretaker of Silvester Horne Institute employed by the Council.
  • Office based in Council Chamber (one room & one filing cabinet!) and worked partly from home
  • Undertook Local Government course and passed with distinction in 1995
  • Gradually grew into a full-time post by 1998, having taken on many more functions (Cemeteries/Park/Playing fields/Market etc) and additional staff to provide these additional services.
  • Moved to current office premises in 2000
  • Became a Town Council & Town Clerk in 2001
  • Became the 500th Quality Council in the country in 1997
  • Overseen many projects e.g. Office refurbishment; Cunnery Road Cemetery Restoration; Silvester Horne Institute Restoration/Regeneration; Richard Robinson pitchworks etc.
  • Helped bring in over £400,000 in outside grants for various projects since 2008.

With a history as good as this, your Clerk and Council must be the envy of many in this County.

This now gives me great pleasure in awarding your Clerk, Christine Harvey, an extremely well deserved long service award from Shropshire Association of Local Councils.
