The Strettons Civic Society

The Stretton Valley and surrounding hills are designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is constantly in peril from the pressures and demands of new building, increased traffic, and the provision of facilities for visitors.

The Society aims to:

  • promote public interest in the care and protection of the area and foster civic pride

  • encourage high standards of planning and architecture

  • secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of the natural beauty, historic buildings and features of public interest

To do this, the Society:

  • examines long term plans and planning applications and makes comments to the responsible authorities when necessary

  • undertakes schemes to improve the area, such as the planting of trees, the provision of public seats, and the removal of eyesores

  • organises a programme of talks on matters of environmental or current interest

  • produces a newsletter and publications on local history.

Membership is open to all who care about maintaining the Strettons as agreeable places in which to live or take a holiday. For more information contact the Chairman Charles Simmonds (01694 724117)
