Local Directory > What to Do

The 'What to Do' section includes gentle activities such as walking & cycling. There are many walking groups in the Church Stretton area including 'Walking for Health' which is a national scheme that encourages health and social interaction. Walking for Health is based at the Mayfair Community Centre in Church Stretton. For those who enjoy a more physically demanding activity, we can cater for that as well - why not take a hot air balloon over the valley or hang-glide off the top of the Long Mynd!

We have local outdoor sport/leisure retailers in the main town and beyond who stock walking shoes/boots, jackets, poles and other various outdoor clothing and equipment. If you want to buy a top brand mountain bike or simply hire them for the day, we can also cater for those requirements. The Mayfair Community Centre and the Teme Leisure Centre are both within the boundaries of Church Stretton town centre and have lots of indoor and outdoor activities you can try. See our events calendar and sort by 'Guided Activities' for local walk, cycles etc you can take part in.

Experience the wonders of the Shropshire Hills. Breath taking walks along hundreds of miles of accessible well maintained paths and tracks. Go forth and venture one step at a time. 'Fabulous', exhilarating, blown-away, awesome sight, are just some of the comments experienced by our global holiday makers.

The National Trust covers much of the Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley. Link through to their website for more information on the topics of geology, geography, history, flora and fauna of this wonderful upland paradise.

The Stiperstones, managed by Natural England, with its rocky quartzite tops visible for miles around. This area again produces breath taking walks. At Stiperstones there is an all purpose, wide, flat, smooth track, approximately one mile in length for the abled, less-abled and wheelchair user to experience the wonders of the Stipperstones.

Stipperstones is Lead mining area, with many reminders of an industrial past and a different culture.

Connect to the 'What to See' section for less active pursuits including parks, museums, castles, towns & villages and much much more.
