Please can people stop having bonfires? It seems every day in the summer somebody decides to burn something. We can't use our garden, have the windows open or hang out washing. It's so frustrating! At the moment there is ash raining down into our garden and, despite it being a lovely day, myself and my daughter are stuck inside with the windows closed, our hair and clothes stink of smoke just from going out to rescue the washing... which is in the machine again. It's really inconsiderate to have a bonfire on a lovely day!

Thank you for the wonderful site! Two generations of us are planning to travel to Church Stretton next year in hopes of finding some information on our Grandmother & Great Grandmother, Evelyn Banks born in 1908. Any info would be great!

Further to the query by Fleur Montgomery re The Hotel Church Stretton. Can anyone verify who was Managing the hotel in 1965, 1966, 1967. This is an attempt to trace the ,mother of A .Montgomery.

Hello there, I am trying to find out some information about a hotel in Church Stretton that burned down at the end of the 1960's. It had been run by husband's mother (surname Montgomery) before she died in 1968 (?) I hope you can help. Regards,Fleur Montgomery........................................ Fleur Our local historian advises there was a fire in The Hotel (Now named Old Coppers Malt) on the night of 2-3rd April 1968. The centre part of The Hotel was gutted and unfortunately 3 boys, twins aged 7 and another brother aged 9, together with two maids died. The Manager at that time was Anastasia Winters. There is a memorial to the boys in St Laurences Church, Church Stretton. This is the only hotel fire in Church Stretton we are aware of. There was a full report in the Shropshire Star on 23rd March 1968. Hope this is of some help. Regards Website Team.

I recently saw a super wildflower verge on a main road. My memory tells me it was outside Church Stretton. Was I right, if so, could I be put in touch with whoever established it................................................................(David, we are hoping one of our viewers will be able to help here. Regards Website team. )
