Shropshire Council County Training Department are holding an information and advice event for young people (16-24 years) in the Bishops Castle area to tie in with Apprenticeship week (Feb 6 - 10).
They want to encourage young people from South Shropshire and their parents to come to find out about the variety of opportunities available for all young people (regardless of academic abilities) leaving school or college this year as well as all 16-24 year olds looking for work and training. The event will encourage local young people to take control of their futures and will be real opportunity to secure job interviews or places on work related training programmes. This event aims to help 16 - 24 year olds make well informed choices about their next steps. It is recognised that for school and college-leavers, taking their first steps into the work environment can be an anxious and bewildering time. Also, there are young people locally seeking work who may have been unemployed for some time who are disheartened by their circumstances. We know we have some remarkable young people in the area and we hope this event will help set them on the right career path, so they all reach their individual potentialThe event is taking place on Tuesday 7th February, from 5.30 until 7pm, at SpArC in Bishops Castle. All those wishing to come along will need to book a place and will receive a free pack with information on career options and a handy booklet full of hints and tips on CV writing, interview techniques, speculative letters and what employers want.
Young people who attend will also have the opportunity to get involved with a follow up event to be held at the end of February. This second event will invite local employers to find out about recruiting apprentices and offer an opportunity for young attendees from the first event to link up. Anyone wanting more information, or wishing to book a space, can visit www.shropshire.gov.uk/apprenticeshipevents or call 0345 6789023The organisers will also be reaching out to local employers in the hope that they will come along to the follow-up event.
