Church Stretton - A Fairtrade Town!

Published: 8th June, 2011

Church Stretton is now an official Fairtrade Town. The good news was sent to Don Clow, Chair of the local Fairtrade Steering Group, and crowns his many years of support for the principles and products of Fairtrade in the Strettons.

A Fairtrade Town raises the profile of its campaign and makes sure that its products are widely available, bought and used within its community.

The fact that 34 of Church Stretton's shops, businesses, schools, churches and B&Bs now offer or use Fairtrade goods bears ample testament to the commitment local residents and community organisations are making to support farmers in the developing world and the gradual elimination of world poverty.

Any shops/businesses not already committed are being asked to consider membership. Fairtrade products don't have to be used exclusively (especially as there are over 3,000 lines!)

The impressive list of existing sellers and suppliers of Fairtrade goods will be eligible for inclusion in the New Church Stretton Fairtrade Directory and website being planned.
