Church Stretton is the second largest Market Town in South Shropshire. The Town Council area includes the villages of All Stretton, Little Stretton, Minton and Hamperley, with a total population of around 4,200 and an electorate of around 3,600.
The Council area comprises 4 wards; each ward is represented by a number of Councillors.

Council meetings are held approximately every 6 weeks, with committee meetings held in between. (Meetings cycle)
There are two Working Groups - the Coppice Leasowes WG and the Town Design Statement WG - and also Task & Finish Groups and ad hoc committees which meet to deal with specific projects. The Council also has representation on the committees of many local organisations and societies. (A list of groups and representatives can be obtained from the Council offices.)
The Council also has equal representation, together with the CS Area Tourism Group, in the Church Stretton Area Community Interest Company, which is responsible for managing the website.
Grants and Donations
The Town Council makes grants to local organisations and projects such as the Arts Festival, Christmas lights, Silvester Horne Institute. Applications for Grants should be made to the Town Council in the first instance.
The Town Council is not responsible for Planning Decisions, as these are made by Shropshire Council. The Town Council comments on all local planning applications, to ensure conformance with the Town Design Statement.
Church Stretton Town Councillors aim to do their best for the community as a whole, without recourse to Party Political affiliations.
We are a very busy Council, with many responsibilities for such a small organisation with a limited income. The Council employs one full-time Town Clerk, one full-time Personal Assistant and three part-time office staff; four full-time outdoor staff, plus a part-time Outdoor Staff Team Leader.
