Llangollen Railway (40 miles)


LLANGOLLEN RAILWAY is a mainly Steam hauled Heritage Railway Line starting at Llangollen Station located beside the Dee River Bridge in Llangollen Town, and continuing for 7 ½ miles upstream, following the River Dee to the village of Carrog.

The Railway remains close to the waters of the river for most of it's length, On the north bank at Llangollen Station, the river is crossed on to the south bank via the Dee Bridge, approximately one mile upstream from Llangollen.

The Long Mynd and Burway (0 miles)


Although from a distance the top of Long Mynd appears to be relatively flat, large valleys eat into the edges. Once managed as a grouse moor, today the Long Mynd is owned and maintained by the National Trust. Many local people have rights to graze sheep there. The highest point on Long Mynd is at Pole Bank - 516 metres, or just less than 1700 feet. a long hill that forms a major part of the South Shropshire Hills. It is essentially a moorland plateau, approximately 10 miles long in a north-south direction, and approximately 4 miles across at its widest point.

Ludlow (16 miles)


Ludlow, according to some, 'the loveliest market town in England', and others 'the historic and gastronomic capital of the Marches.  'Its imposing Castle is the backdrop to a town full of architectural gems. It offers markets on most days, the River Teme and the Bread Walk, and the Mortimer Forest just above Whitcliffe Common on the edge of the town. In fact, you could easily spend a whole day sampling the delights of this historic town. The Arts and Food Festivals each summer are growing in national popularity.  Take the train into Ludlow in less than 15 mins from Church Stretton.
