Summerfest - 19th June 2010 - Success
PLANNING HAS STARTED FOR SUMMERFEST 2011
Shropshire Council is celebrating the Shropshire Olympian Festival (which was held in Shrewsbury Quarry in 1864), by holding a Shropshire Festival over three days Friday 17th Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June 2011.
To avoid any possible impact on Stretton’s SummerFest, it has been decided to hold the 2011 Stretton SummerFest on Saturday 11th June – a week earlier than originally planned.
As in previous years there will be lots of fun and interest for the children in Rectory Field, roving buskers and bands in the streets, hog roast, food outlets, stalls – and who knows what surprises are yet to come.
SummerFest 2011 will once again be a free day, with a musical evening for just £5 in Rectory Field. So make a note – Church Stretton, Saturday 11th June 2011 from approximately 11am to late evening, for a wonderful day of family entertainment for residents and visitors, with an opportunity to support the town’s traders.

2ND SUMMERFEST - 19th JUNE 2010
All for FREE – the Chamber of Trade hosted its second SummerFest. Residents and visitors thronged the tiney town of Church Stretton, decorated with hundreds of large yellow balloons, flags, metres of bunting and 15 theme banners prepared especially for the event.
The atmosphere was exhilarating – stalls throughout the town, roving groups of young people in period costumes performing street art, car parks taken over by bands, dancers, classic cars, bikes, steam engines and tractors.
Rectory Field - a mass of people, parents with children (not forgetting the dogs), all enjoying the day-long programme of events which included taiko drumming, Stretton School of Dance & Drama and Bands - whilst children thronged the face and tattoo painting tents.
Information stalls featured the Arts Festival, Scrappies Children’s Scrap Store, RNLI, Climate Care. Golf Club, SSAFA, National Trust and the newly formed local History Group. Rotary displayed and demonstrated the use of their Emergency ShelterBox, used worldwide in disaster areas
A new feature to SummerFest, the air activity section mounted by the Midland Gliding Club with their gliding simulator, Gerry's gyrocoptor and Vernon Kerswell (Dragon’s Den) demonstrating his range of flying helicopters and toys.
As for the evening event - Only £3 entrance - people of all ages enjoyed the musical gig on Rectory Field which included 10K Runner, Smoke Feathers and local singer Katie Lewis with her new band The Custard Connection. The very popular Bedouin Shiver dancers gave an additional impromptu performance to the delight of the crowds.
The Chamber of Trade received support from many, many people and acknowledge with thanks the unstinting efforts of everyone who gave help or volunteered in any way.
Date for the next SummerFest will be decided at the forthcoming debriefing meeting of the Planning Committee.

Once again the Church Stretton Chamber of Trade is arranging its SummerFest, this year's event to be held on Saturday, 19th June 2010.
The aim of the SummerFest is to showcase the town and give traders, shop-keepers, cafe proprietors and publicans an opportunity to welcome residents and visitors to the town and area.
As last year, we expect many of the major local organisations will join in the fun, particularly the schools. Extensive car parking arrangements in Russells Meadow will be in place, as will Ring & Ride - operating between the town to the Senior School and Cardingmill Valley.
Plans for the evening musical event - so popular last year - are under way.
Volunteers are needed to help plan, organise and run the many events on Saturday 19th June for the benefit of local people and our guests - do make contact if you have a few hours to spare.
