Overview -
COMMUNITY CHEST SCHEME - March 2004 - to date

The Church Area Partnership Community Chest scheme, funded through the Opportunity Fund (2nd Homes Council Tax) Scheme, started in March 2004 and duringthose four years 89 community projects have been assisted with grants ranging from as little as £105 to the full eligible amount of £1,000. A total of £57,056.67 has been paid out in grants to date. The majority (68) of these were Church Stretton basedprojects organisations but several of the other eligible parishes have also beenassisted with this funding.

During the financial year 2008/2009,  £25,895 will be allocated to the Partnership and priorities for that spend will be considered at the Partnership meeting in March 2008.   Here again organisations are recommended to submit application forms in early March 2008. 

It is uncertain whether further funds will be forthcoming once a Unitary authority exists, and this could be the final allocation the Partnership will receive for the Church Stretton area.

Opportunity Fund - Overview

The Opportunity Fund is funding that is derived from the increased council tax levy on second home owners in South Shropshire. SSDC and Shropshire County Council make over £25,000 available to the Church Stretton Area Partnership per year which it uses to develop projects and support local groups.

Church Stretton Community Chest Scheme

The Partnership secured funds in 2004 through the South Shropshire Opportunity Fund, to develop a small grants scheme for local charities, voluntary and not for profit groups that operate within the parishes of:

¨             Church Stretton (All Stretton & Little Stretton)
¨             Eaton Under Heywood
¨             Acton Scott
¨             Rushbury
¨             Hope Bowdler

This grant scheme is still available to local groups who can apply for up to £1,000 to assist community based projects.Brenda & Peter 0496 - Tuesday Day Centre

Some of the types of activity that could be funded include;
small scale repairs to villagehalls, training, hire or purchase of equipment, newsletters and leaflets, and the development of community services.
