In June 2009 Shropshire Council replaced the old authorities of Shropshire County Council and South Shropshire District Council. Church Stretton comes under the Electoral Division of Church Stretton & Craven Arms and has 2 elected representatives: Cllr J A Gibson (01694 720086) and Cllr D W Evans (01588 673204)

CHURCH STRETTON TOWN COUNCIL
Church Stretton is the second largest Market Town in South Shropshire.  The Town Council area covers not only the town itself but also the villages of All Stretton, Little Stretton, Minton and Hamperley, with a total population of around 4,200 and an electorate of around 3,600.  We have 13 councillors, split into four wards  : 2 for Little Stretton (which includes Minton & Hamperley), 2 for All Stretton, 5 for Church Stretton South ward and 4 for Church Stretton North ward.

The Council meets every 6 weeks, with committee meetings in between (Finance & General Purposes Committee; Economic Development Committee; Amenities Committee; Website Management Group;Coppice Leasowes Working Group; plus ad-hoc committees)

Church Stretton Town Council is responsible for:

Cunnery Road and Greenhills Cemeteries
Various Open Spaces
Coppice Leasowes Local Nature Reserve
War Memorial site
Silvester Horne Institute
Markets
Park
Playing Fields
Footway lighting
Floral planters during the summer and winter months
Town Council Website 
Lutwyche Road Car Park
Lutwyche Road Toilets

The Town Council comments on all local planning applications.

The Town Council makes grants to local organisations/projects such as the Arts Festival, Christmas lights etc

We are a very busy Council with many responsibilities for such a small organisation with a limited income.  The Council employs one full-time Town Clerk, one full-time Personal Assistant and three part-time office staff; four full-time and one part-time outdoor staff plus a part-time Outdoor Staff Team Leader.   The Council Office at 60 High Street, is open to the public Monday to Friday 10 am to noon.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, the Council is required to publish details of how information available from Church Stretton Town Council can be obtained. A copy of the CSTC Model Publication Scheme can be inspected at the Council Office. (see also Town Council Minutes page, General Information section)

Church Stretton Town Council is non-Party Political, with all members aiming to do their best for the community as a whole. The Council was proud to be awarded Quality Council status in 2007 - the 500th Quality Council in the country.
